Timepiece: Citizen ProMaster Dive Watch

Retro is all the rage. You know that, the world knows that and timepiece makers know that too. So, it should come as no surprise that Citizen is winding back the hands of time to 1982, a time when its legendary dive watch set records for the water resistance at a depth of 1,300m. Fast forward to 2021 and Citizen brings back its refreshed ProMaster Dive watch.

The distinctive silhouette of the original watch is clear to see when the timepiece is viewed. The square bezel guards at 2, 4, 8 and 10 ‘o clock houses the dial glow-in-the-dark lumens at the hour marks. The lug-free look, in a heavily textured sandblasted titanium case, is a nice touch.

Available is three colourways – the first is the charcoal grey dial model with titanium grey case and black and gold bezel. This one matches closest to the 1982 original. Then there is the addition of blue and green camouflage dial versions, together with color-matched rubber strap alongside darker duratect DLC cases.

Fast forward three decades and technology has come along way. The new solar-powered watches have the same 46.5mm diameter of the original version, although it does feature a slightly thinner Duratect Super Titanium case for additional comfort.

All three watches are available from 1st July RRP £370.
