Kicking off 2023, there has been a flurry of new timepiece launches to tempt the discerning gent into switching up what is adorning his wrist. Seiko are one of those bringing out a new model – the Propex Winter Speedtimer limited edition mechanical chronograph, adding to the current Prospex line up.
The Winter Speedtimer – indeed the collection too – draws inspiration from the brand’s first stopwatch, used as the official timing device at the Sapporo Winter Olympics in 1972. This first watch was known for its design and high legibility in extreme winter weather conditions. Taking these design cues, the new Winter Speedtimer features a sandblasted matte black dial with contrasting red indexes, reducing light reflection from the sun and snow. Thus, this watch could assist the discerning gent during his urban commute when things take a snowy turn during the winter months in the UK.
Under the hood, there is further design nods to a previous great, as the Winter Speedtimer also features a vertical clutch and column wheel mechanism – originally seen inside the revolutionary 1969 Speedtimer. This was the world’s first mass produced automatic chronograph powered by the Calibre 6139. Like it’s predecessor, the Winter Speedtimer is powered by the Calibre 8R46. which guarantees steadfast precision and durability. Seiko uses reliable MEMS technology to enhance stability whilst maintaining an escapement that is both lightweight and strong, suited for extreme sports lovers and adventure seekers alike.
This timepiece is limited to just 600 pieces worldwide and it’s available from February 2023 RRP £2,540.
