Back in November 2023, Daniel Craig sent the watch world into excited orbit when he flashed an eye catching timepiece on his wrist whilst attending the Planet Omega Exhibition in New York. That watch was the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch and it is now available for watch lovers to own.
The Speedmaster Moonwatch is an attention seeker. Outfitted with a lacquered dial in crisp white, the indices, handset and tachymeter bezel come in a contrasting black hue to stay true to the model’s easy-to-read philosophy. Touches of red are also implemented onto the tip of the central seconds hand, as well as “Speedmaster” lettering.
Why easy to read? Back in 1957, when the Speedmaster was launched as a racing watch, it was given a black dial with luminescent hands and indices for maximum legibility. That form stayed true for decades and it was approved for use by NASA in the 1960s. Racing drivers and Astronauts need to be able to read the time quickly and thus, the Speedmaster legacy was cemented in history. Now, Omega has updated the styling , ditching black white glossy lacquer and adding applied black indices and black hands, plus red dial text for the word “Speedmaster” – a nod to the “Alaska” project of 1969 that resulted in a white-dialled model that was never officially adopted for space use.
Inside the 42mm-sized timepiece beats the Calibre 3861, a Master Chronometer-certified movement geared with 50 hours of power reserve. This iconic wristwatch is accompanied by a vintage-inspired steel bracelet with polished and brushed links. Two other straps are also confirmed, which include a rubber textured and a racing-themed option featuring a black micro perforated leather build.
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch has an RRP of £7,600 and will be available to buy via Omega online and in-stores soon.
