Timepiece: Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Commander’s Watch

“Bond, James Bond.” Three words that automatically conjure jump images of sophistication, gadgetry, cars, women and watches – not always in that order given the varying focus of the British secret agent. Amongst the suave and charm, the thing that sticks out is the stylish dress sense and the constant presence of a good timepiece – that’s nearly always a Omega Seamaster.

So, to commemorate Bond’s loyalty to the timepiece, Omega has launched the Seamaster Diver 300M ‘Commander’s Watch’ earlier this month. The story goes that costume designer Lindy Hemming insisted on the Seamaster timepiece because she felt it was more appropriate for a naval commander such as Bond to wear one. He has since been sporting the Omega timepiece for films including Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, Die Another Day and Casino Royale.

The limited edition timepiece is actually identical to other Seamaster Diver 300M watches but with the Bond twist. Essentially, this gives the spec of a 41mm case and the Omega calibre 2500 movement with co-axial escapement. The Bond touch is with the colour scheme – a red and blue NATO strap and ceramic bezel reflecting the colours of the British Royal Navy, finished with a white dial.

The details do not stop there. The unforgettable 007 ‘gun’ logo is discreetly positioned at the end of the seconds hand. There is no need to worry about over branding – unlike recent Bond films – as that’s the extent of the 007 lively on the front. Flip the watch over to find more 007 detailing on the caseback. Available in stainless steel and 18K gold versions, given this is a limited edition run the numbers also reflect Bond’s influence with 7,007 pieces in steel and a mere seven in gold.

RRP £3,720, Omega
