Sonic Smile: Foreo Issa 2 Toothbrush

Society is forever chasing that million-dollar smile. Whether it’s the Hollywood actor/actress flashing their smile, the Love Island influencer giving it all they got for the paparazzi or simply that friend or colleague with those pearly whites, having a set of teeth that can grab attention is always in demand. But how does one get to have a set of sparklers? Well, good oral hygiene is key and a toothbrush that helps you attack dirt and plaque is your friend in this daily battle.

For the discerning gent opting for the electric solution, the next question is whether to go oscillating or sonic? Oscillating brushes have a circular head that can rotate up to 7,000 times per minute. Sonic brushes set that up to over 10,000 pulsations per minute. Whichever way you look at it, that’s a lot of brushing per minute that your steady hand just cannot cope with.

DiscerningGent.com has always been big on the grooming aspect for men and any good grooming routine features a solid toothbrush routine. If you don’t believe us, ask your dentist. Grooming has also embraced the technology world tightly and Foreo already has heritage in this space, with its skincare range for men. The same pulsating vibrations, or sonic care if you like, is used to create its toothbrush offering, the ISSA 2.

Available in black, cobalt blue, mint and pearl pink, the toothbrush has immediate impact from a visual perspective. The PBT polymer and soft silicone body make this brush feel great in the hand. The simple one-button operation to switch on/off is combined with a +/- to allow the user to increase or reduce the pulsations through 16 settings, although with no visual display screen it’s a matter of feeling the change rather than knowing it.

The brush heads feature a combination of bristles and silicon filaments to tackle different parts of the mouth, from teeth to gums. A 30-sec timer helps the user manage each quadrant of the mouth before moving onto the next which is a great touch. However, the biggest advantage by far is the charge of the device, capable of lasting one whole year on a single charge. Even if the discerning gent gets 10 months, that’s still hugely impressive considering that nearly all of the competition need daily/weekly charging to work.

DiscerningGent.com has been testing out the device this summer and can confirm that it’s not required another charge, despite being set on the highest pulsation setting with three uses per day. It’s also a natural move from a manual toothbrush given that the user still needs to move the brush across the teeth, except this time with added sonic oomph.

Harley Street dentist, Dr Mark Hughes was also able to comment on the ISSA 2 as well, saying: “I would pick the FOREO ISSA 2 toothbrush over other electric toothbrushes on the market simply because of the materials in the brush. It incorporates ultra-hygienic, medical-grade silicone and PBT polymer for a gentle brushing experience unlike any other. The natural properties of silicone and PBT polymer harbour less bacteria for more hygienic brush heads and overall oral health. The durable, hygienic brush head lasts twice as long compared to nylon toothbrushes. Its unique hybrid brush head also allows ISSA 2 to provide a soft gum massage while at the same time removing 30% more plaque than a manual toothbrush.”
