London Fashion Week Men’s: January 2018 Preview

Celebrating five years is no mean feat – these are one of the many accolades received for London Fashion Week Men’s (LFWM) in 2017. Moving into 2018 and it is another busy start to the year as per usual for the January highlighting of the latest in men’s fashion.

Officially starting on Friday 5th January with a handful of opening presentation events, LFWM will be in full flow from 6th– 8th January with over 50 shows packed into just three days. Seasoned followers of men’s fashion week will be well aware of the permanent calendar fixtures from labels such as Xander Zhou, Lou Dalton, MAN, Belstaff and others along with high street staples as familiar as Topman and River Island. The full schedule is available in PDF here if you need to print a copy to navigate your path through the fashion weekend.

Notable for DiscerningGent.com this year are the fresher faces from the likes of Liam Hodges, Michiko Koshino and Kiko Kostadinov. A keen eye will focus around these and the hope they blossom into permanent fixtures on the early year calendar.

A key trend right now – and one that is not really focused on fashion per se – is that many fashion labels are choosing to combine their men and women’s fashion showcases for one point in the calendar. More often than not with the combined shows is the preference to go with London Fashion Week (LFW) and the annual February-September circuit rather than January-February and then June-September if you follow the traditional men’s-women’s pattern. This makes sense from those labels with both menswear and womenswear lines, so let us see if this particular theme gathers further pace through 2018.

One thing is – London is in love with fashion. The straight-out-the-gates timing of LFWM means fashion lovers don’t have to wait too long following the autumnal blitz the year previous to get their fashion fix whilst those covering the fashion circuit for reportage always have plenty to discuss as the lights shut and the clothes hangers are racked up in prep for June.
