As desired timepieces go, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is one of those watches that draws the attention. Blancpain has been releasing several updates to this popular line over the last few years. This year, it’s the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Automatique.
The 2019 edition keeps the sporty feel that makes this timepiece a must-have but has updated key aspects to the model to bring together touches of exquisite design and high-tech innovation. This first thing to notice on this model is the satin-brushed red gold case and dazzling blue ceramic dial. It’s also the first time the collection that the dial styled in blue too.
Given this is a divers watch, there is a rationale to employing ceramics in its design. Whilst technical ceramics isn’t new to the Blancpain range, its re-use here aside form looking very appealing to the eye, ceramics are six times harder than steel. Perfect when your timepiece of choice needs to go deep.
Looking at the specifications of the Automatique model, it’s powered by 1315 movement which suits the sportier watch from a precise and performance perspective. The case is at 45mm diameters in size, giving it the look and feel of a weighty masculine timepiece. It’s also water resistance to 300 metres. The blue calf leather strap is a fitting way to finish off the look and feel of the watch, as well as proving another link back to maritime heritage that makes this model so striking.
